Nikki Lee in Elle Magazine

I was reading through the March issue of Elle magazine and found an article about Nikki Lee. She was the woman from our book that tried to blend into all of the stereotypical groups of people. Here is a clip of the article:

For her latest project, Layers, which will be shown at the Sikkema Jenkins gallery in Manhattan in November, Less crisscrossed the globe from Rome to Rio, commissioning local street artists to draw her portrait. Afterward she overlapped their images on a light box and photographed them. In one composite, she looks more Caucasian, in another her nose is slightly askew, and in a third, a vaguely Cubist half drawn eye floats across her cheek. "I'm examining my own identity," she explains. "Before, my work featured other people and me in costume assuming their identity." Doffing all props and accessories, only her face is left to serve as the blank canvas. Lee sees it as a more Western approach to art. "In Eastern culture you are taught to think of others rather than just yourself; you are connected to society," she says. "The Western way is more ego-based."

Mom's Birthday

We had a blast last weekend at my mom's birthday. She was really surprised. This is the invitation I designed for it.

Tattoos pictures are also to come.

(Update on bug from previous post...I'm sitting at the same computer and the bug has managed to crawl out of the keyboard and onto the desk space. I squashed him with my pen. I must have typed on top of him because he was limping. Now I can't stop itching. Ugh.)

Pretty Soap

I was in Su Casa, a really hip furniture store in Fell's Point, and I saw these little beauties. I'm in love with packaging design because really, that's what sells. I'd often pick a prettier package without even looking at the price tags. I'm putting these in my bathroom.

Do you think I can convince my family that they're way to pretty to use? Probably not but, it's worth a try.

Happy What?

I walked through the front door at work today and to my suprise the scrolling marque did not shout "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!" at me like it normally would on any other holiday. Whoever writes these signs also over uses their exclamation marks. I'm almost afraid that they'll use so many exclamation marks there will be a shortage in the world some day very soon.

I digress. Instead, the sign read, "Happy Single Awareness Day." No exclamation marks. Just a sign wishing every person without a significant other a happy day...despite the love in the air, the chocolate candy grams being delievered and the bundles of overly priced red roses. A day just for you to let you know you are very much alone on a day full of love.

Harsh but, rather funny.

So many holidays, so short of a month!

In honor of the last hoorah before lent, for someone of us, I've decided to share this beautiful painting: Mardi Gras, Craig De Leenheer.

It really puts me in the mood to celebrate. It's energetic, bright and flows like music.

In the spirit of the holiday I'm making a King cake. Yep, that's right, I got the baby last year. I did feel luckier than usual... ;o)
